Mental Health

It is well know in the medical community that effectively managing mental health is important for everyone, but it can become especially important for individuals living with epilepsy. The intrconnection between physical and mental health is complex, and each can impact the other.

Connections to be aware of

Increased risk factors: higher risk of conditions such as depression and anxiety, due to social isolation, stigma and barriers or challenges with daily activities.

Symptom Management: Untreated conditions can worsen physical symptons. For example, depression can decrease motivation for physical therapy, and compromise the management of underlying physical condition.

Impact on Daily Life: Good mental health provides the resilience neeeded to adapt to challenges, maintain social connection, and engage in meaningful activities - vital for a good quality of life when managing epilepsy.

Management, Support and Guidance offers

Holistic Wellbeing: Your overall wellbeing needs you to care for your mind and body. Ignoring one will undermine the treatment of the other.

Improved outcomes: Effectively managing mental health can help with accountability to the epilepsy management plan, improved physical function, and a more positive outlook, enhancing the individual's ability to identify and cope with daily stressors and triggers - mental and physical.

Empowerment: Taking charge of mental health empowers individuals to be active in their own care.
