Anxiety and Depression are two different condtions, however they can occur together. Both can seriously impact a person's life, day to day, and they often share similar treatment approaches.
Anxiety
We all feel stressed and worried from time to time. These feelings are a common response when we feel under pressure, and usually pass, when the situation moves on or environment changes. Anxiety is when anxious feelings don't go away, and may not have a clear cause. Anxiety symptoms, psychological and physical, can develop over some time. Like many other feelings, we all experience anxious feelings, and it can be difficult to know when to reach out. Individuals can experience changes in mood, difficulty calming down, inability to control anxious thoughts or concerns of threat, difficulty concentrating, sleep disturbances, tiring easily, palpations, nausea and sweating. If you are living with anxiety, the anxious feelings may not be easy to managed. Anxiety is the most common mental health condition in Australia, however, it is treatable.
Depression
Depression is a condition that can range from mild to severe. It affects how you feel about how yourself, and it can make life difficult to manage, day to day. You might lose interest in things you usually enjoy. You might lose energy, have trouble sleeping, or sleep more than usual. Some people feel irritable and some people find it hard to concentrate. Depression is more than just feeling sad and down, its a persistent low mood or loss of interest or pleasure in activities tha are usually enjoyed. Individuals can experience a range of symptons from feeling overwhelmed, hopelessness, low self-esteem, feelings of worthlessness, to difficulty concentrating and remembering, to changes in sleep and appetite, fatique, to withdrawal from social activities, loss of interest in hobbies, lack of energy, to an increase in use of alcohol and other drugs.
